Abstract

Physical fitness is an important component of students’ readiness to participate effectively in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning. Adequate fitness may support endurance, concentration, and active participation, which in turn can contribute to learning achievement. This study aimed to determine the physical fitness level, PJOK academic achievement, and the relationship between both variables among eleventh-grade students at Palopo State High School No. 3. A quantitative approach with an ex post facto descriptivecorrelational design was employed. The population consisted of 430 eleventh-grade students, from which 40 students were selected using simple random sampling. Physical fitness was measured using the Tes Kebugaran Pelajar Nusantara (TKPN), consisting of the V-Sit and Reach, 60-second Sit-Up, 30-second Squat Thrust, and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER), with Body Mass Index (BMI) recorded as supporting data. PJOK academic achievement was obtained from students’ report-card scores. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Pearson’s product–moment correlation, and simple linear regression. The results showed that the mean physical fitness score was 2.9638 ± 0.84489, with 45.0% of students classified in the fair category. PJOK academic achievement had a mean score of 92.23 ± 2.869, with 62.5% of students classified as excellent and 37.5% as good. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between physical fitness and PJOK academic achievement (r = 0.436, p = 0.005). The coefficient of determination was approximately 19.0%. In conclusion, better physical fitness was moderately associated with higher PJOK academic achievement, although other factors also contributed to students’ learning outcomes.
