Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' truant behavior, the factors that influence it, and the handling strategies carried out by guidance and counseling (BK) teachers at SMAN 9 North Luwu. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, direct observation and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with stages of reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that two students were often late and did not attend the first subject due to lack of self-control and negative peer influence. Apart from that, lack of parental supervision also plays an important role. Guidance and Guidance Teachers apply behavioral contract techniques in a behavioristic approach as a handling strategy. This intervention was successful in reducing the frequency of truancy, as evidenced by increased student attendance and achievement. These findings suggest that behavior contracting techniques are effective and can be adapted in other schools to address similar behaviors.
