Abstract

ABSTRACT Seaweed is one of the superior marine products that has economic value that can drive economic industry starting from the farmer, producer, processor to user level. Several seaweed genera have commercial value, one of which is the Eucheuma Cottonii species which can be used as raw material for agar, carrageenan and alginate industries. This study aims to determine the suitability of water quality in seaweed (Eucheuma Cottoni) cultivation locations in the waters of South Nunukan, North Kalimantan. The method used is in the form of a descriptive survey to analyze the suitability of water quality conditions for physical parameters (Temperature, Current Speed, Depth and Brightness) and chemical parameters (Ph, DO and Salinity), there are 6 stations and 3 repetitions. In this study, the data from the measurement, observation and analysis of water quality are adjusted to the literature on seaweed water quality thresholds. The analysis data obtained shows that there are 3 stations that do not have inappropriate parameters, namely stations 3, 4 and 5, and 3 stations that have inappropriate parameters but are still tolerable, namely stations 1, 2 and 6. Thus, it can be concluded that the waters of South Nunukan are classified as good and allow for the cultivation of Eucheuma Cottoni seaweed.
