Abstract

Research on self-management techniques on truancy behavior of students at SMPN 2 Lamasi. The research objectives are; (1) To describe the truant behavior of students of SMPN 2 Lamasi before doing self-management techniques. (2) To determine the factors causing truancy in students of SMPN 2 Lamasi. (3) To describe the efforts to overcome truancy behavior of students of SMPN 2 Lamasi through counseling using a self-management technique approach. The research was conducted at SMPN 2 Lamasi with five children using qualitative techniques with a phenomenal approach and collecting data through interviews. The research results are; (1) The condition of students before the counseling activity was held was staying up late at night, getting up late, leaving late for school, attending school but not coming during study hours. This has an impact on decreasing student achievement. (2) The factor that caused students to skip school was Student 1 waking up late because they were busy playing games all night long. Student 2 wakes up late from working all night at one of the coffee shops. Student 3 wakes up late because of the habit of watching late night box movies. Student 4 purposely skipped class because his parents didn't pay attention to him, and so they cared about him. Student 5 woke up late because of the habit of hanging out with friends all night playing cards. (3). Implementation of self-management techniques through researchers trying to listen to student problems, then provide motivation and advice to students and provide self-management sheets to students. After students receive counseling through self-management techniques, it is known based on the information from the counseling teacher that the five students who have been counseled since the last four weeks have never had reports from either the teacher or the homeroom teacher that they are truant.
